What is “Salt Water Chlorination”?
“Salt water” pools are not salty like ocean water. They are commonly called “salt water” systems since they use common salt to chlorinate the pool instead of liquid or tablet chlorine. As everyone knows, liquid/tablet chlorine often results in over-chlorination, and swimmers are subject to a strong chlorine smell, eye redness, and potential skin irritation. So, in place of liquid chlorine, salt water pools use an electrolytic chlorine generator that breaks down common salt to generate chlorine. As a result, these systems are much more efficient in producing just the right level of chlorine. In addition, salt water pools are much gentler on your skin and eyes.
